Out with the old, in with the .... ?
I sent my motherboard away to get the chip fan replaced under warranty. Some time later it turned out that it had been replaced, and returned, but to the wrong address, then it finally arrived, but didn't work because they hadn't tested it, so I sent it away, and it got lost again for a bit. I had a call from the tech today after chasing for an update and it turns out that my whole machine is pretty much poked.
The motherboard won't pick up any RAM at all, the RAM won't work in another machine, the PSU was mostly dead, the video card (an expensive high end one) apparently is dead. Don't know about the CPU but replacement for the mobo is going to be impossible as they don't make them any more, and the CPU/RAM were quite specific to it. Bugger it.
So, the mobo, CPU and RAM are under warranty so a credit will probably be issued instead of replacement, then I'll have to work out what I want instead. Kind of yay that I get to pick something new, and a little more future proof than last time, but suck that I have to buy effectively a whole new kit. Fortunately no data was harmed as the drives are safe and sound in my secret lab.
