Leaving Dunedin, on holiday

As a ridiculously cold front apparently sweeps up the country (evidence of it is yet to hit Dunedin) I'm on my way to Wellington and Hamilton for a bit (there, GJR, happy?). I'm sitting here watching the propellors from a spin up (ZK-MCO), phasing clockwise and counter underneath the sodium lights.

It will be nice to get away for a bit - it was only in the last couple of hours that I realised that I think I need a holiday.

Windows Vista Speech Recognition

Windows Vista comes with speech recognition software. I thought it would be a good experiment To see if I could post An entry On my blog without touching the keyboard . So far, so good. I need to train the speech recognition software further before it can actually recognise my voice but even so with minimal training it is doing a very good job.

The odd capitalisation Is because I can't be bothered going back to correct these mistakes , but it is also because I am speaking in short bursts of text to make sure that I'm not Committing too much to the windows speech recognition Buffer.


So far as entry has taken about 10 minutes to dictate to the computer. I suppose if you train the recognition software correctly and you aren't a very fast typist then dictation would be a much faster way of entering text.With my ridiculously fast keyboard entry skills voice recognition is more a gimmick then a useful feature for me.

You can move the mouse around the screen as well By using the mouse grid interface. When invoked this splits the screen up into nine squares. You then select the grid that you want by speaking the number of that grid. That grid is being replaced with another smaller Grid containing nine squares. This continues until you have selected the exact place on the screen Where you want to click.

This is becoming very painful So I am going to click the Publish Button.
