Windows XP Home Permissions
Arrgh, it’s sooo frustrating when file permissions get all farked up with Windows XP. Why? Because all the drooly settings that you can play with in Windows XP Pro are missing.
But, there is a Microsoft tool that will install the long sought after “Security” tab on a file or folders properties dialog.
Read about it here: http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/xp_home_sectab.htm. Thanks Doug!

the reason why you cant see all the drooly persmissions is because a home user is expected to not play with them (read fark them up).
you can however boot the computer into safe mode, login as admin and you will have access to do whatever you want – include fark everything up.

Agreed – my particular problem came about because my removable hard drive was formatted with NTFS. After reinstalling Windows, the owner of the files was no longer me – it was a user ID like S-1234-56789. I was getting sick of booting back to safe mode to fix this.
Enjoy the permissions everyone
