Impending Doom!

According to unverified sources:
Apparently there is a large asteroid heading directly for Earth (the Pacific Ocean near Norfolk Island, to be specific). It's sure to cause apocalyptic tidal waves across half the planet, and dramatically affect the climate planet-wide. It's due to arrive on 28 June 2006. Best advice from the GCC (Global Catastrophe Conglomerate) is to "live life like you're gonna die".

I think I'm a convert...

I've installed Linux ("Kubuntu" actually, Ubuntu with KDE) on my laptop now in a dual-boot configuration. I've overcome most of the initial problems which basically boiled down to locating and installing certain packages, and once I get audio, 3d video & wifi working I'll be a happy chappy.

But, do you know what made the biggest difference? Fonts. Yep, that's right - I read it somewhere else and after I managed to get the Microsoft Truetype Fonts installed (thanks to tips this page) it feels more like home. Fonts make a HUUUGE difference.

Oh, and something else cool - KDE supports .svgz (scalable vector graphics, zipped) files for Desktop wallpapers :) Dare I make one?

So here I am with Gaim, Firefox & Thunderbird loaded up and I feel right at home. Still got some minor font tweaky issues to deal with but I suspect that the majority of my uptime will be spent in Linux now, and not Windows. I'll keep Win(XP home) installed for games, and in case something goes tits up.
