RC Aero Club Found

Well, my trip this afternoon was not in vain. First of all I went into town to see if I could get a wide angle lense for my video camera. The shop I went to didn't have any in stock, but after telling me that I could expect to pay anywhere between $200 and $800, I was glad they didn't have one. I left the shop with an "Easy Pod" - a one legged extendable tripod thingie.

I stopped in to Mosgiel and picked up my Dad and we went out to the RC Field which is about 10 minutes out of Mosgiel (directions). We spent about an hour down there and saw some great stuff - the brushless motors were the most impressive in my opinion - seeing a large glider flying upwards at a 45 degree angle with little more than a quiet whine was jaw dropping.

Here's some pics!

Hunting for Propellor Heads

As I write the final watt-seconds of charge are tricking into my video camera. I'm on a mission! It's an awesome day here in the bay ... err, in Dunedin - and with a bit of luck the flying nutters out on the Taieri plains are buzzing their radio controlled craft around.

When we were in the UK Linda bought me a radio control glider (Firebird). It was SOOO easy to fly and so much fun. I've been meaning to get one but I want to have a good chat with some people in the know so I'm off out there today,

Linda is in town shopping with her mum so it's the perfect time to shoot off and see what I can see. I might even take a leetle picnic with me :)

With a bit of luck the next post will have some nice pictures, provided I can find these guys...

Wish me luck!

And the credits scrolled...

I've done it! I've got to the end of the missions in GTA San Andreas! I've been playing on and off since March this year and if I had to guess how many hours I've put in I'd estimate over a hundred.

I'm now free to explore the map and tidy up loose ends. I'm not going to get 100% complete - I'm not nerdy enough. Have you SEEN some of the prereq's to get 100%? You have to take photos, win mountain bike races, date 5 or so girls, pimp, become a top-level vigilante/firefighter/ambulance driver.... too much to do, not enough time.

Oh, and another funky li'l thing ... a San Andreas Radio Ripper. This proggie will rip the audio from your PS2 GTA:SA DVD to WAV files. It runs on your PC and then you can encode them to MP3's. The very cool thing about this is that unlike the Vice City audio track (which was pre-recorded and unchanging), the San Andreas audio is made up of radio ads, song specific intro's and outro's and all sorts of fillers. Guaranteed to be different all the time :) I'm in the process of making up a couple of CD's for playing in the car.

Geocaching

The BLT Crew (Bob, Linda and Tim) were at it again this weekend, out and about exploring the hidden treasures that New Zealand has to offer. I won't rant on about taking things for granted but bloody hell we certainly did before we left NZ.

Our big round trip was organised by Linda and Tim's GPS pointed the way. We started off from Dunedin at about 9am and headed to the Catlins coast. The weather was fantastic, wall to wall blue skies and +20°C.

A picture tells a thousand words so here's some pics from the hunt!

Spikes please

Arrrgh, that is IT!

I want some of those spike strips that the cops have. I'll have them sitting outside and the next time I hear a boy (or girl-) racer wind their car up at the end of the street I'm out there to pop those tyres.

I've been asleep at night and heard cars going past our place at what I would guess was over 100km/hr. It's a freakin' residential street and my car is parked out there. All it needs is for something to go *ping* in the steering control and my car (or someone elses) is wiped out.

Stop it you freakin' idiots!

That reminds me - we saw the aftermath of a boy-racer rear ending someone's car. Nice skid marks down the road and a bunch of louts standing around gawking. The boy's dad arrived just as we were driving past much to the amusement of all ... except for the dad/son.

Bones

Bones are weird. I learnt something the other day about bones. Bones need blood otherwise they die. If the blood supply for a bone is cut off, the body will expel the dead bone. *shudder*

How do I know this? Well, when I had my tooth pulled out (2nd molar), part of my jaw shattered. I didn't know this at the time but a month later I can feel something sharp starting to come through my gum. I went to the dentist and he checked it out and very matter-of-factly said that it was just some jawbone.

*JUST* *SOME* *JAWBONE*

Those are three words that in hindsight are freaky when strung together. Oh, I wouldn't mind if it was someone else's jawbone, but it's mine. I just want to get in there and pop it out ... but when I try it the bloody thing hurts like a hammered thumb. Apparently it's common and it will work it's way out in time. Sheesh! Bones are weird.
