Two Tickets to Paradise

Two Tickets To Paradise lyrics by Eddie Money. Love it!
http://www.lyricsxp.com/lyrics/t/two_tickets_to_paradise_eddie_money.html
I've got two tickets to paradise,
Won't you pack your bags, we'll leave tonight,
I've got two tickets to paradise,
I've got two tickets to paradise.

(It's on the GTA:SA soundtrack... niice!)

A bad case of wires

My mum called to cancel KJ visiting because she (mum) wasn't feeling too well. I was disappointed - KJ is such a sweetie! Anyway, I was talking to my Dad today and it turns out that he was standing in our front doorway yesterday at about 1pm ringing the doorbell with KJ in his arms but we didn't hear the dumbo doorbell!

The doorbell we have is a wireless one, which is great because you can move it around the house but the problem there is that if you forget to move the doorbell you miss out on all those cool visitors (like the Jehovah's Witnesses, local M.P.s and Charity Collectors).

I'm going to see if I can wire something up to fix this problem but I was kicking myself when KJ didn't get to visit. Mind you, from the way Dad told things I think she was a bit freaked out - Dad had taken her down to see Gran at the old people's home and KJ had sunk her sharp claws into soft old-lady-legs. *ouch*

Grr ya little tyke...

Linda had a scan today.

It stretched out like a cat in front of a heater (except it didn't turn inside out).

Freaky! But very vey cool! I think I'll watch Alien tonight.

Bang goes the sleep ins...

It looks like I'm going to be losing my favourite time of the week - Saturday morning sleep in time. There's nothing better than soaking up the warmth of a bed and knowing you don't have to be anywhere....

Well, I won't have to be anywhere ... until early March. About that time, Linda will sprog our first child! What the! Yeah, I know freaky stuff eh? :)

Linda and I took an extended lunch break today to whiz around the family and inform them of the impending addition. My uncle Dave and auntie Lenore were over from Australia and so they got to find out first hand as well which was nice for them!

So yeah, yay and all that!!

Cat of doom starts to get out and about

My mum likes cats.

For those of you who know my mum you'll know that what I've just said doesn't even begin to scratch the surface. She is cat ... MAD! I don't know how many cat ornaments she has but every time we go out there I see more that I'm sure I've never seen.

But anyway, on to my point ... KJ, the cat of doom* is coming to our flat next weekend!

Mum took KJ to work the other day - a first for the little critter. Mum works in an old people's home and they absolutely loved the cat - except for one person who grumpily said "I don't like cats" to which my mum answered "Well, you don't have to look at it". I said to her that she should bring KJ into town. After betting backwards and forwards that she wouldn't, she's finally marked it in her diary and I've got the date in my PDA... 9am saturday there's be a big fluff ball arriving.

I'll have to take some photos :)

* Cat of doom is a bit harsh - cat of cuteness and fluffiness and stupidity is probably more appropriate!

Weird flashing lights in the sky!

Some parts of Dunedin might have seen weird flashing lights in the sky tonight ... I was out in the 'burbs with my car and high powered torch sending flash-signals across town to see if I could get line of sight with David's place.

It looks like we've got it - althought it might be a close shave with a small hill between us ... but this will be confirmed this week when he brings a ladder around and I'll climb up on the roof to see if I can get confirmed LOS from up there.

Why? Wireless internet! The days of the Guru being stuck on dialup are now numbered! Woohoo!

Win32 Rsync via SSH

Recently I've been investigating how to set up a Win32 system running an rsync server. The good news is that you can do it and it works - the bad news? Well, if you're a click and point hax0r you might struggle a bit.

Cygwin is a set of win32 libraries that allow you to run Linux software on Windows machines. It's even better than it sounds - you can configure services (apache, mysql, ftp, ssh, rsync etc etc) and even run Xwindows and your favourite X applications.

Check it out - if nothing else it's great to have a /bin/bash shell available on your win32 box :)

Oh, and if you came to this post looking for information on configuring ssh & rsync, you're better off coming back soon (tomorrow) but in the meantime check out http://www.petersblog.org/node/448
