RC Aero Club Found

Well, my trip this afternoon was not in vain. First of all I went into town to see if I could get a wide angle lense for my video camera. The shop I went to didn’t have any in stock, but after telling me that I could expect to pay anywhere between $200 and $800, I was glad they didn’t have one. I left the shop with an “Easy Pod” - a one legged extendable tripod thingie.

I stopped in to Mosgiel and picked up my Dad and we went out to the RC Field which is about 10 minutes out of Mosgiel (directions). We spent about an hour down there and saw some great stuff - the brushless motors were the most impressive in my opinion - seeing a large glider flying upwards at a 45 degree angle with little more than a quiet whine was jaw dropping.

Here’s some pics!

Awesome! I’ve got a basic RC model from Dick Smith (cheap as, $100) with two electric motors. Very easy to fly - loads of fun.

Managed to kill it though. Hit a tree (actually did that several times…), but the last time resulted in it drowning in an animal trough. Doh! Might get a new one sometime soon!

Yeah I think I know the one - the red Firebird with the yellow props? I had one of those in England, it was fantastic! I’m ready to move up to the next model now so doing my research before I buy!
