Confessions of a Guru....

Ahh, Tomato Sauce, the geek's supplement. You should never be more than 2.5MB away from a half-full bottle.

Tomato Sauce works with:
  • Pizza (extra on top of what the pizza company puts on)
  • Sardines on Toast (required!)
  • Steak (in the absence of peppercorn sauce)
  • Hash Browns, Sausages, Bacon, Fried Eggs - try to keep it off the mushrooms but if you slip, hey it's cool
  • Mashed Potato (esp. with lots of butter - mmmm....)
Tomato Sauce does NOT work with:
  • Wine (it pools in the bottom of the glass)
  • Weetbix, Rice Bubbles, Cornflakes
  • Ice-cream (although my sister will tell you otherwise)
  • Asparagus, Beans, Sprouts
  • Pancakes, Pikelets & Scones
  • Salmon, Caviar

The technology to do almost anything exists nowadays - you can set up a gateway website to draw messages on the side of a building that are sent via SMS, or you can take a photo of yourself and annotate it in a silly way (name wittheld to protect the incompetent). Obviously there are some things that you shouldn't do :)

I have found an 80's song that I'm hooked on. "Last train to London" by ELO (Electric Light Orchestra) - Atomic Kitten stole their Chorus for their song - it goes like "I really want tonight to last forever, I really want to be with you ...", not that I care much for the A.K. version. Now all I have to do is cleanse my soul and buy it on eBay ...

I am a Geek. No, I really am. If you're here and you don't know what a Geek is, you're in the wrong place. You'd better make a hasty exit, but not before briefing yourself with Wil Wheaton's interview with GeekExtreme.

I went to the Herts LUG meeting last night - an interesting evening, especially as it was held in a pub although this was maybe a little restrictive in terms of actually getting down and dirty and getting into the techy side of things. Even so, it was great to see the people behind the email addresses and to chew the fat. Among other things I came across an interesting article about quantumn properties in Perl. I'll hunt down links in the future but the gist of it is that someone has developed a perl class that allows you to specify a value as any(1,2,3) which mean that if you test that kind of variable with something like if ($mynum == 3 and $mynum == 1) then you'll get a true response. Funky stuff - there's an interesting article in the Linux magazine (not sure if that's it's official title) about using this to work out probabilities for playing Blackjack.

Otto is sick. He needs some TLC (which actually means he needs some money spent on him). Poor thing ... if he was a script or a hard drive at least I could overhaul or defrag him. Stupid cars, who ever thought of them anyway? Oops, I didn't see you there Otto, how long have you been listening for?
